Internship — Optical & Biophotonics Engineer Job Opening In Paris – Now Hiring Spore.Bio

Job description

About us

Spore.Bio is a deeptech start-up born in 2023, building a new paradigm in the quality control systems in Food&Beverage, Cosmetics, and Pharmaceutics factories.

After spending a lot of time in factories environments, we saw the pain it was to make sure products were safe.

Traditional quality control has heavy constraints and long waiting times.

To change that, we decided to build Spore.Bio, a new generation of microbiological testing.

Our team is dedicated to bringing technology and developing a cutting-edge solution, based on advanced optical and deep-learning technologies, to detect bacterial contamination within seconds.

Are you ready to revolutionize microbiology monitoring in factories?

Spore Bio is seeking a Optical & Biophotonics Engineer to develop our cutting-edge data science solution.

Join our dynamic team of R&D experts and product managers, and help us build the future of industrial microbiology.

About the role

  • Light–matter interaction studies: Explore and analyze how optical signals can reveal biological properties, and propose new approaches based on these insights.

  • Collaborative research: Work closely with microbiology and ML teams to bring a multidisciplinary perspective and identify transversal solutions.

  • Exploratory experiments: Design and conduct optical experiments on biological samples to test new concepts and refine system performance.

  • Optical benches & prototyping: Build and optimize optical setups to validate ideas and ensure their robustness.

  • Component characterization: Pilot and evaluate opto-electronic components (sources, detectors, filters, etc.).

Your Profile

  • Master degree in biophotonics, optics, physics applied to biology, or a related field (engineering school or university).

  • Strong interest in light–matter interaction, with curiosity for biological systems.

  • Appetite for exploratory and solution-oriented research, beyond pure engineering.

  • Comfortable in a multidisciplinary environment (biology, optics, hardware, software, data science).

  • Proactive, creative, and motivated to contribute ideas as well as experiments

Soft Skills & Mindset

  • Ability to navigate and contribute in multi-disciplinary environments, including client-facing or cross-functional discussions

  • Proactive, execution-oriented mindset — you take ownership and make things happen

We don’t expect you to know everything from day one.

What matters most is your curiosity, drive to learn, and willingness to dive into challenges.

Why joining us?

  • Work in an innovative and rapidly growing startup.

  • Participate in exciting and impactful projects.

  • Evolve in a collaborative and stimulating work environment.

  • Opportunities for professional development and continuous training.
