SUPERVISOR Director of Career Development (ACE) or any other supervisor designed by the Provost or President.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The principal responsibilities of this position are to advise students on building a career trajectory; acquiring and identifying transferable, marketable skills; and preparing to enter the world of work.

ACE Career Advisors work in tandem with ACE Academic Advisors to build links with students, faculty, and the other AUP departments to help students discover the range of discipline-oriented professional trajectories and develop professional skills both inside and outside the classroom.

They work with faculty and the departments to transform their contacts within the field into internship and work opportunities for students by helping build and maintain employer networks.

Flexibility is crucial to this position, as is the ability to work well within a team, to function independently, and to demonstrate diplomacy while dealing with a range of stakeholders.

All ACE team members support each other as required by the cyclical nature of the academic year.

The duties and tasks listed below will be distributed across ACE Career Advisors no one advisor does it all! Rather, ACE Career Advisors will be responsible for taking a percentage of the career, internship, workshop, and relationship-building responsibilities.

The ACE Advisor Career Focus Level 2 role is for someone with a proven track record in all the skill areas detailed below and, after an initial training period, can function completely autonomously.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Career advising, exploration, and coaching:

The ACE Center Careers Team supports undergraduate and graduate students across all of the AUP fields of study

Works with students who seek support in exploring career pathway possibilities that link their academic, co-curricular and past professional experiences and interests.

Assists students in preparing and implementing their internship and job searches through the facilitation of workshops, group coaching sessions, and individual student appointments.

Supports students in the preparation of resumes and cover letters in English and French, interview preparation, job and internship search, etc.

Maintains and shares knowledge on trends and best practices in recruiting in France, Europe, the US, and other parts of the world; advises on the use of social media for job seeking; understands the latest developments in resume writing; and maintains a presence on professional networks.

Assists students in preparing and implementing graduate school applications by helping them identify programs of interest, navigate the application process, and write application essays, etc.

Meets with alumni both in person and online to offer career advising services.

Supporting Students with Internships:

Internships for credit are an important part of the academic experience for many AUP students.

In addition, the labor laws in France (and other countries) require strict compliance with internship procedures.

For this reason, the ACE Career Advisors have several responsibilities related to internships.

Works with other members of the team in processing students internship registrations.

Liaises with other offices as appropriate concerning interns graduation dates, GPA and credit overload, internship dates for enrollment certificates, carte de séjour and visa matters, tuition payments, health and other insurance compliance.

Implements internship approval process and registers approved internships via student data management systems.

Ensures faculty, students and host companies have access to accurate information through creation and revision of internship policies.

Coordinates with faculty readers and department chairs/program directors regarding academic approvals for internships.

Compiles internship assignments and processes internship grades, follows up on and finalizes outstanding internship grades.

Tracks incoming and on-going internships through an online platform and may review updates to processes used within the platform.

Interfaces with internship host companies to issue convention de stage paperwork.

When necessary, acts to resolve any issues concerning AUP student internships within the host organization.

Tracks internship hiring/registrations and full time hiring for use in statistics for assessment purposes; working with other members of ACE, contributes to building yearly assessment report for the unit.

ACE Career Development Program Workshops (including the Global Professional Skills GPS Certificate)

The ACE Career Development Program provides a framework for students to explore opportunities, build confidence in their competencies and advance their career and professional development.

Facilitates career workshops related to career readiness including those on self-assessment, resumes, cover letters, networking, job search, interviewing.

Contributes to the development of new and existing career development workshops.

Supports and advises students who are pursuing the GPS certificate.Building professional relationships and opportunities:

Actively collaborates with AUP Outreach and Advancement teams in the facilitation of the AUP Global Mentoring Program.

Contributes to managing the AUP job & internship database and the eventual upgrade of the database.

Develops department and major-specific resources for students in collaboration with faculty colleagues.

Collaborates with faculty colleagues to expand employer network in targeted industries to better meet student interests.

Identifies and reaches out to employers to participate in hiring talent through postings and career- related events.

Maintains network of top AUP internship destinations and liaises with alumni and other members of the AUP Community to grow and maintain this network.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND TASKS

Organizes, facilitates and participates in various Academic Orientation activities.

Assists with the scheduling and facilitation of events (both online and on campus) for students and alumni to efficiently deliver career services in group settings with the support of the ACE administrative assistant.

Liaises with AUPs 3rd party career service providers such as Symplicity, Careernomics and GoinGlobal to contribute content or advise on new processes and improvements to existing processes.

Helps to cover the responsibilities of colleagues in cases of their absence or when they are on vacation.

Fulfills other appropriate duties which may also be assigned by the Supervisor according to the needs of the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 5 years professional experience, preferably with some work experience in a university environment or in career counseling.

Bachelors degree or equivalent; Master's degree preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and preferably also in French (C2, native French speaker would be a plus).

Ideally well established in Paris/France (4-5 years resident).

Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to work quickly and efficiently.

Strong technology skills (Microsoft Office Suite, online career systems, databases, social media).

Patient, friendly, and efficient manner and able to work with a diverse group of students and colleagues.

Ability to work under pressure and understand and follow policies and procedures.

High level of professionalism, proactive, motivated to learn, and flexible in response to shifting priorities.

Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team.

Knowledge and understanding of the American system of higher education is a plus.
